G2 looked unstoppable after the Europe MENA League Stage 1 2026 Group Stage where they went 9-0. Every player on the G2 roster had a rating over 1.00 in the Group Stage and their IGL Alem4o was leading the league in Rating while calling strats and playing support roles to lead his team to victory.

Playoffs started with an unlucky matchup for G2. They were paired up against European titans Team Falcons who started off the Stage slow but were looking back to their normal selves heading into Playoffs. G2 lost the close best of 3 game 2-1 and dropped down to the lower bracket. There they faced Fnatic, a team that they had not lost a map to in the past 2 years. G2 were heavy favorites heading into the match and won Lair 8-6 to get out in front but this wasn't enough. Fnatic fought back to win the next 2 maps, the final being an 8-7 max overtime victory on Kafe Dostoyevsky.

With this loss G2 are officially eliminated from Esports World Cup 2026 contention. This is the first major event that G2 has missed out on since EWC 2024.
